Nominees are evaluated by their peers according to their area of expertise for inclusion in the list. After receiving a high peer review, nominees go through an authentication process to ensure they are currently in good standing. Caroline Knox received the highest peer feedback from reputable lawyers in our geographic area. They recognize Caroline’s outstanding abilities in the area of elder law, and this makes her the recipient of the 2019 Elder Law Lawyer of the Year award in the Asheville area. Caroline is a certified specialist in Elder Law by the North Carolina State Bar, and is one of only 17 NC lawyers currently designated as Board Certified Elder Law Attorneys (CELA) by The National Elder Law Foundation. Caroline advises clients on matters relating to guardianship, Medicaid and other public benefits planning. In addition, she often serves as trustee, guardian, Executor and attorney-in-fact under powers of attorney.

Caroline has practiced law for 18 years, but the last 7 months has been in her own elder law practice, Knox Law. Working in a small law firm allows more interaction with the clients, and this is what inspired Caroline to open her own practice. Caroline enjoys working with and helping her clients. She has developed an emphasis on special needs trusts and other planning tools for clients with disabilities and children with special needs. She often serves clients who would otherwise be disqualified from public assistance, and she works to preserve assets for supplementing care provided by Medicaid and Social Security.

“I am honored to receive this recognition made possible by my peers,” says Caroline. “We have some incredibly talented lawyers throughout western North Carolina, and I am proud to be working with many of them.” Joining Caroline in the practice are Mary Lou Shepherd, Legal Assistant, Amy Elkins & Meredith Calhoun, Paralegals, Denise Hanks, Certified Care Manager, Wendy Crook, Medicaid Coordinator, Katherine McDowell, Account Specialist & Suzanna Waddell, Compliance Specialist. “We have the best team of dedicated staff here at Knox Law. We all work to build relationships with our clients, assist them in planning, and ensure they understand we are here to take care of them when they need it most.”

Knox Law is now open with an office at 16 Towne Place Drive just off of Highway 25 South in the Towne Center Development. Caroline is currently accepting new clients, and for further information, visit www.cknoxelderlaw.com or call 828-513-1600.
